The Long March 7A lifted off from Wenchang at around 8:02 p.m. Beijing time on August 10. The rocket was carrying the ChinaSat-4B communications satellite, which was intended to provide communications services after reaching its planned orbit.
The mission encountered an anomaly during flight shortly after liftoff. Video footage showed the rocket breaking apart at relatively low altitude, resulting in the loss of both the launch vehicle and its satellite payload. Chinese state media subsequently confirmed that the mission was unsuccessful.
