Maximizing Your Tax Return: 5 Key Deductions for Residents in the Valencia Region for 2026
For the 2026 tax campaign (covering the 2025 fiscal year), the Valencian Community has introduced some of the most generous regional tax reliefs in Spain. Following the ratification of Decree-Law 1/2026, the regional government has increased the income limits for many deductions to €30,000 for individual returns and €47,000 for joint returns. This shift means that thousands of middle-income expats and residents can now claim back significant amounts on their annual IRPF (Income Tax) return.
If you are a tax resident in the Valencia region, here are the five primary deductions you should check:
Healthcare and Mental Well-being: Residents can deduct up to 30% of expenses for non-aesthetic dental health, mental health treatments, and chronic or rare diseases. Additionally, 30% of the cost for prescription glasses and contact lenses is deductible (up to €100).
Sports and Physical Activity: To encourage a healthy lifestyle, the region offers a 30% deduction (up to €150) for gym memberships, personal trainers, and sports federation fees. For those over 75 or with disabilities, this can cover 100% of the costs.
Family and Childcare: The "per-child" deduction has been increased significantly. Families can claim €600 for the first child, €750 for the second, and up to €900 for the third or more. There are also specific deductions for daycare expenses for children under three.
Housing and Rent: Young residents under 35 and those with disabilities can deduct 5% of the investment made in their first habitual residence. Furthermore, rent deductions remain a cornerstone of the regional policy, with limits reaching up to €1,100 for specific vulnerable groups.
Sustainable Living and Mobility: In a push for green energy, deductions are available for energy-efficiency improvements in the home. This also extends to personal electric mobility, including a percentage of the purchase price for electric bicycles and scooters.
To claim these, ensure you have official invoices (facturas) as the Spanish Tax Agency (AEAT) requires documented proof during the filing process.
