Tragedy in the Canaries: British Tourist Killed and 27 Injured in La Gomera Bus Crash
A devastating road accident in the Canary Islands has left one British national dead and 27 others injured after a tourist bus plunged into a ravine. The incident occurred on Friday afternoon, April 10, 2026, on the winding GM-2 highway near San Sebastián de La Gomera. The bus, which was transporting a group of British holidaymakers to a ferry terminal for a trip to Tenerife, reportedly veered off a sharp bend before sliding down a steep embankment.
Emergency services, including air ambulances and mountain rescue teams, were quickly dispatched to the scene. Local authorities confirmed that a 77-year-old British man tragically lost his life at the site. Of the 27 injured passengers, three remain in critical condition and have been airlifted to specialist hospitals in Tenerife. Preliminary reports suggest the driver may have experienced a sudden brake failure, though the Spanish Civil Guard has launched a full investigation to determine the exact cause. The British Foreign Office has confirmed it is providing consular assistance to the victims and their families during this difficult time.
